About the Forum       Submissions       All Responses

Submissions

Thank you for your interest in contributing to the Harvard Law Review Forum.

How to Submit a Response

We accept essays responding to Articles appearing in the December 2005 Issue of the Law Review and all subsequent Issues (we cannot accept responses to student pieces, book reviews, or Articles published before December 2005). Contributors may submit their essays through our electronic submission system, preferably in Microsoft Word format.

Guidelines for Submissions

A Response should comment on one of our Articles from an interesting and original perspective. Responses should take the form of short essays, which should not be as heavily footnoted and sourced as traditional law review articles.

Given the purpose of the Forum (see About the Forum), we will give preference to submissions that are less than 3000 words in length and are unable to accept Responses exceeding 4000 words, including footnotes (note that Microsoft Word does not automatically include footnotes in its Word Count feature). In addition, please include an abstract of no more than 500 words, which will appear on our website if your Response is selected for publication.

Citations should conform to the 18th edition of The Bluebook.

Editing and Publication Process

Because one of the purposes of the Forum is to publish timely replies, Responses receive expedited editing. Once a Response is selected for publication, it will be edited and returned to the author for approval of non-technical changes. Depending on editorial resources, Responses will be published within a few weeks of submission.

Responses appearing in the Forum are permanently published on our website as Adobe PDF files. Forum Responses are also available on both Lexis and Westlaw. The Forum is formatted and paginated like our printed volumes and should be cited as follows: Jane Smith, Response Title, 119 Harv. L. Rev. F. 1 (2005),
http://www.harvardlawreview.org/forum/issues/dec05/author.pdf.

Responses are published on a rolling basis.
